When I first realized I needed to raise funds to go to Mongolia, I grumbled. No one likes asking for money, especially in these economic times. Then I realized that it's the Fathers plan that others get to partake in the work done when He calls people to tell others about Him.
So besides sending out newsletters, this blog, Facebook and other fundraising avenues, I also got the opportunity to dog/house sit for some friends last weekend.
This is Duke. You can see how high maintenance he is. I also got to take care of his sister, a chiuaua mix named Minnie. Loved it!!
Along with fundriasing, I've had to redefine how I feel about fundraising - this helped:
Philipians 4:14-20
14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. 15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need. 17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. 18 I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. A few things to know:
- Your gift is tax-deductible
- I'm looking for monthly supporters but am very grateful for one time gifts as well
- I am required to have 70% of the funds already contributed and/or pledged before I go (I'm leaving in March 2012)
- I am required to have more contributed this first year as it will include 5 months of training (to learn Mongolian, learn what to teach and how to teach, etc.), visa, shots, plane tickets, insurance, etc. My goal is to have 25 - $100 monthly supporters this year however I have people giving less and more per month. What you choose to give or not give is between you and the Father.
- If I don't have 70% raised/pledged by the time I need to leave, I will stay in Denton and keep working on raising funds until the following March.
- I am contributing monthly to this mission as well
- I would love to answer any other questions you may have - just email me!
I am also lucky to have friends throwing fundraisers!
Gina Bowser (middle) was sweet enough to throw a Silpada party to help me raise funds today. My friend Wayla (left) was one of the several ladies who dropped by and bought jewelry - she got a really nice "hammered" sliver watch - LOVE IT! I bought two pieces...this was not easy to do as I wanted about 90% of the catalog. For the next couple of days, you can place an order online: www.silpada.com/gina.browser
Other fundraisers are coming - watch this blog or my Facebook page for upcoming chances to contribute!
